Advancement Office | Makerere University

The Advancement Office is a strategic unit operating under the Office of the Vice Chancellor at Makerere University, operating as a hub that provides strategic direction and operational support across multiple engagement fronts.

It was established as the central coordinating body for alumni engagement, institutional advancement, stakeholder engagement, resource mobilisation, and strategic partnerships.

The office works collaboratively with all University units to streamline stakeholder relationships, transform ad-hoc engagements into structured partnerships, and leverage the University's networks for sustainable institutional growth.

The office operates across four interconnected pillars:

1. Alumni Relations & Internationalization – Building and maintaining connections with Makerere's extensive alumni network domestically and internationally. Coordinates the giving back campaign for Alumni contributions to the growth of the Endowment Fund and other strategic contributions from the Alumni community
2. Student Advancement – Creating pathways for student success through skills development programs, leadership training, internship placements, and career advancement opportunities in partnership with public and private sector organizations.
3. Institutional Visibility – Supports the Public Relations Office with managing the University's digital presence, partnerships, and strategic brand presentation, and enhances reputation and stakeholder awareness of Makerere's contributions to knowledge, innovation, and national development.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Resource Mobilization – Developing and nurturing strategic relationships with government, industry partners, international organizations, donors, and community stakeholders to support the University's advancement and fundraising objectives.
