Makerere University is committed to ensuring that the Advancement website and our digital communications are accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. This statement describes our approach, current measures, known limitations, and how to request assistance or report barriers.
Our commitment
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA where practicable. Accessibility is an ongoing priority as we publish new content, features, and design updates.
Measures we take
- semantic HTML structure and heading hierarchy on key templates;
- text alternatives for meaningful images where alt text is provided in the CMS;
- keyboard-accessible navigation and interactive controls on primary templates;
- sufficient colour contrast on core brand components, tested against institutional palettes;
- responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes and zoom levels;
- respect for
prefers-reduced-motionfor users who disable animations; and - forms designed with visible labels and clear error messaging.
Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some areas may not yet meet our target standard. Known limitations include:
- older PDF or document downloads linked from legacy content may not be fully accessible until remediated;
- some third-party embeds (for example certain video or social widgets) are governed by external accessibility practices;
- archived news or media items may predate current accessibility guidelines; and
- occasional contrast or focus issues in newly released components until identified and corrected.
We welcome reports of specific barriers so we can prioritise fixes.
Assistive technology
Our website is designed to work with modern browsers and common assistive technologies including screen readers, screen magnification, and voice input. For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser and assistive software up to date.
Physical access
Information about physical access to the Office of Advancement and main campus facilities is available through our contact page. If you plan to visit and require accommodation, please contact us in advance so we can assist.

We aim to acknowledge enquiries within five working days and to provide a substantive response or timeline where remediation is required.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate your concern through Makerere University’s relevant complaints or equity channels. We are committed to resolving accessibility issues constructively and promptly.
Continuous improvement
Accessibility is reviewed as part of design, content, and development workflows. This statement will be updated as we make substantive improvements to the site.
