The 6 March 2026 dinner reunited generations of health professionals and raised substantial support for the iconic space that shaped their training.

On Friday, 6 March 2026, Nile Hall at Hotel Africana became a living archive of stories, laughter, and shared purpose as alumni of the Makerere University College of Health Sciences gathered to celebrate 100 years of training health professionals.

Over 437 alumni and friends attended — a remarkable turnout for the first MakCHS Alumni Dinner — including former Vice Chancellor Prof. George Kirya, Prof. George Paul D’Arbella, Prof. Anokbonggo, and Prof. Sam Luboga.

A legacy of service

In remarks delivered on behalf of Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng — herself an alumna — the evening reflected on medicine practised with rigour and compassion. Graduates of the College serve across Uganda’s health system, in public health leadership, research, and education worldwide.

“Reaching a centenary is not merely the marking of time; it is the celebration of generations of dedication, scholarship, and service that have shaped the health and well-being of our nation.” — Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng (message delivered on her behalf)

Alumni power in action

The dinner launched a fundraising effort to refurbish Davies Lecture Theatre. By night’s end, dinner and raffle sales reached UGX 118 million, with additional donations and pledges of about UGX 100 million and USD 7,000 — demonstrating that alumni engagement invests in the institution’s future, not only nostalgia.

Alumni resolved that the dinner should become an annual tradition, strengthening bonds between generations united by a shared calling to heal, teach, and serve.
